Gates to Paradise: Creating metal doors for 11th-12th century churches

In 2023 we will complete the field documentation of the bronze doors: in May we plan to document the Gniezno doors and in June we will study the doors of San Paolo fuori le Mura and the Battistero Lateranense in Rome. Unfortunately, under the present circumstances, we do not see any possibility of studying the bronze doors in Novgorod, Russia.

This year, we will present at various conferences our first results: amonst others, at the Annual Meeting of the European Association of Archaeologists Belfast, UK; the International Medieval Congress in Leeds, UK; the XXIVe colloque du GMPCA in Nice, France; and others. Also, the first publications are submitted (about the byzantine doors in Novgorod; the Magdeburg doors in Novgorod; and the two bronze doors from San Marco, Venice) and the Open Access to all data obtained during the project is under preparation.
